PLOUTOS Sustainable Innovation Pilots

PLOUTOS ANNOUNCES THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF ITS SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION PILOTS!

The project has reached its 2nd year and is now officially deploying its Sustainable Innovation Pilots throughout Europe.

PLOUTOS H2020 Project 
PLOUTOS is an EU-funded project that aims to re-balance value chains to enhance win-win outcomes for different actors involved, such as farmers, cooperatives, agri-food companies, technology providers, SMEs, and others. Combining behaviour innovation, collaborative business model innovation and data-driven technological services, Ploutos will increase transparency, information flow and management capacity. The result will be more competitive, efficient, resilient and sustainable agri-food value chains with improved performance and positive socio-economic and environmental impacts.

All innovations of Ploutos are combined in its’ Sustainable Framework, a toolkit, which will be assessed and adjusted through the Ploutos Sustainable Innovation Pilots. All of them are currently being launched across Europe, including in Greece, the Netherlands, Ireland and Spain, North Macedonia, Serbia, Cyprus, Slovenia, Italy and France. Apart from geographic coverage, Ploutos pilots also cover a large range of agri-food ecosystems, including arable horticulture, greenhouses, perennials, livestock and dairy production.

Introduction of IoT solutions through NADIA platform to the agro-food sector and generate synergies between tourism and agriculture – Balearic Islands, Spain
The Balearic Island’s agricultural sector manages 85 percent of the islands’ whole land surface. However, their economic activity is based on a very busy tourism sector. The islands’ economic, social and environmental sustainability depends on a balance between the tourism and agri-food sectors.

The agri-food sector lags behind other sectors in terms of innovation and the adoption of new disruptive technologies, which would help them be more competitive and generate more synergies with the tourism sector, increasing its income and positive impact.

The challenge is to make everybody, especially those related to the world of tourism, aware of how agriculture is essential for tourism and show them how tourists are interested in the agricultural part of the islands.

Technologies like IoT will support the achievement of this challenge. For example, the deployment of  AnySolution’s NADIA IoT platform in AGROMALLORCA.  Thanks to the data gathered, this will help them reduce costs and be more efficient (water, pesticides…). At the same time, the PLOUTOS traceability solution will give consumers more accurate information on the quality of the products. This information will also be used to inform tourists, not only on the quality of the products but also on new tourist activities linked with the agri-food sector (examples being visits to the farms or the possibility of experiencing how to make their own oil). Cooperativas agro-alimentarias Illes Balears are the pilot’s liaison between all relevant stakeholders, the press, other local, national and international cooperatives. They are also in charge of raising awareness on how changes are needed to achieve a sustainable economy that is also required to achieve environmental and social sustainability. 

The project is a great opportunity for AnySolution to use its IoT NADIA platform to introduce “precision agriculture” in the Balearic Islands and to the improvement of decision making based on a powerful platform that includes Artificial Intelligence algorithms.
